Fees & Engagement
I work on an hourly basis with a retainer, under a short written engagement. The current fee schedule — hourly rates, retainer amounts, and travel terms — is available by email and I send it the same day: request it here.
As party appraiser
The appointing party pays its appraiser's fee — that's how the process is designed, and it does not compromise the appraiser's duty to value the loss honestly. Before accepting, I'll tell you candidly whether the amount in dispute justifies the cost of appraisal; sometimes it doesn't, and you're better served hearing that at the first call.
As umpire
The umpire's fee is customarily split equally between the parties, with a retainer from each side before work begins. Disclosures go to both sides before appointment. My invoices are itemized, and both parties see the same numbers.
Consulting and expert work
Litigation consulting and expert witness engagements are billed on a separate schedule, also available on request.
Want the fee schedule?
Email is best. Include the insured's name or case caption, the carrier, the claim number if you have it, the loss location, and the role you have in mind — appraiser or umpire. I respond to every serious inquiry.
